Long ago, there was a little girl who always wore a red hooded cloak her grandmother had sewn for her, so everyone called her Little Red Riding Hood. One morning, her mother packed a gift basket and asked her to bring it to her grandmother, who had caught a cold.

Little Red Riding Hood set off cheerfully through the familiar forest. She listened to the birds sing, watched sunlight filter through the leaves, and remembered her mother's warning, so she always kept the paved stone path in sight.

When she reached the curve in the path, a wolf stepped out to greet her. He acted very polite and asked where she was going, then kept asking what direction the house of the person she was visiting lay in.

Then he pointed out a pretty flower meadow right off the path, saying a fresh bouquet would cheer up the sick person more. Thinking she wouldn't stray far, she stepped onto the grass and started picking flowers.

While Little Red Riding Hood was busy choosing flowers, the wolf ran down a shortcut to her grandmother's house. He knocked on the door, imitating the little girl's voice. Grandmother heard the strange voice, peeked through the gap in the door, and spotted his gray tail.

Grandmother quietly crawled into the large wardrobe in her room, and pulled the alarm bell string connected to the forest ranger's house. The wolf pushed open the unlocked window and climbed inside, spotting the nightcap on the chair.

He put the nightcap on his head, crawled into bed, and pulled the blanket all the way up to his nose. He planned to take Little Red Riding Hood's food basket and scare her into running away. But the nightcap was too small, so the wolf's two ears kept sticking out.

Little Red Riding Hood reached the house, found the door open, and sensed something was wrong. She didn't step all the way inside, instead standing near the exit and calling out to her grandmother. The wolf answered in a hoarse voice, and she spotted the large ears sticking up over the bed.

She remembered her mother had taught her to trust signs that something was wrong. She asked a few questions to buy time, while slowly backing out onto the porch. When the wolf lunged off the bed, Little Red Riding Hood threw a blanket over his head and ran outside, slamming the garden gate shut.

The wolf was tangled in the blanket for a moment, and just as he freed himself, the forest ranger and his patrol dog arrived, alerted by the alarm bell. The ranger stepped between the wolf and the little girl, using a large net to restrain him without hurting him.

Little Red Riding Hood said her grandmother might still be inside the house. They called out to her, heard a reply from inside the wardrobe, and opened the door. Grandmother stepped out, hugged her granddaughter, and thanked her for keeping a safe distance. The wolf admitted he had taken advantage of Little Red Riding Hood's curiosity.

Little Red Riding Hood also admitted she had left the path to pick flowers, and her mother reviewed all the safety rules with her. Grandmother fixed the window lock, the forest ranger added more path signs and emergency call stations in the woods so everyone could travel safely.

Over the following weeks, the wolf worked with the ranger team to plant trees, clean up trash, and reopen paths for wild animals to find food far from residential areas. He learned that if you want help, you have to be honest, and you can't use fear to get what you need.

One day, Little Red Riding Hood ran into the wolf far off the path. He stood still, kept a safe distance, and bowed his head to apologize. She accepted his apology but didn't step any closer, then continued on her way with the forest ranger.

The wolf respected that choice and returned to the section of forest he was caring for. Staying calm, observing carefully, and keeping a safe distance helps everyone avoid danger. If you make a mistake, owning up to it and fixing things can always change everything for the better.
